Little Conversations

My aunts are constantly getting frustrated with their son. They yell, they punish, and they gripe at him for every little move that he makes, or anything that he does wrong. When he is only doing these things because he is a 9 year old boy. This last week we spent thanksgiving as a family and all I heard was the never ending frustrated words being thrown his way not only from his mothers, but my siblings and parents too because they are not used to young children. at one point during the trip I had the pleasure to get him started in a conversation that was all about him. I pushed him to expand his vocabulary and create more complex and descriptive sentences to build onto the conversation that we were having. He was so excited about the subject we had picked that he dove into his story only stopping when I had questions or comments to help build my knowledge on the subject. He had the most intelligent answers a 9 year old could offer and I was surprised at his input in the conversation.

Stressed and in need of help:)

Recently I have been so caught up in my schoolwork that I have lost track of time. I usually am prepared and on-task when it comes to the holidays and have everything that I need way ahead of time, but this year we are almost halfway through November and I am just now realizing that Christmas is only five weeks away. I now am stressed to the max about finding gifts for my oversized family and my closest friends. I have no idea what I even want to get them and am pretty sure that I am going to end up with a bunch of handmade gifts that aren't that well thought through. Plus on top of that I am piled up with homework and schoolwork. I haven't even thought about what I want  for Christmas let alone what to get other people. I am in desperate need of ideas for easy DIY present and will be extremely thankful for ideas and suggestions! Thanks you all rock!

Three Generations

Three Generations She stands in the middle strong and filled to the brim with knowledge, She keeps their feet grounded, never even breaking a sweat. She stands the tallest and holds herself the highest, She is who they look to for courage. She smiles a bit smaller; but she is the happiest of them all The eldest of three generations. She stands on the left her arm around the reason she is here, She has wisdom but is still learning, so she is able to pass it on. She steps forward every day, never looking back, She knows the ropes but is not afraid to ask for help. She has lines from the never ending laughing, and a smile that make her eyes squint almost closed, The middle of three generations. She stands on the right, immersed in the love they send to her She has little experience, and much less knowledge, but strives to make them proud. She is smallest of the three; though she is ready to fight every battle she faces, She will howev

Funny Little Boy

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending my aunts wedding with my family. I was excited to see my aunt for this first time in a little over two years, maybe more. While the wedding was fun and beautiful, I was surprised that the wedding was not the best part of my small adventure. While at the wedding I learned the kind of person that my second youngest nephew is becoming, and man did it make me smile. I spend a lot of time with my family and I have watched this boy grow up from the age of 1 to the now 11 year old young man he is today. Before this weekend I thought that I knew his personality and would have told you that he was a hyper boy, but shy around people that he doesn't know too well. At the wedding I was expecting my sweet little nephew to hide off at the table or in a corner; boy was I wrong. This handsome little guy was bustin' a move and taking over the dance floor all night long. Until this night I had never seen someone dance so hard that their nose began to

Loving the Season!!

Lately I have been so happy when I get ready in the morning because I get to wear all of my most favorite clothes. I am such a fall and winter person. I have noticed that the older I get the more excited I get for October to come around. As soon as the weather starts to get slightly chilly I am wearing sweaters and scarfs and hanging up the decorations for fall. This is my favorite time of year. Everything starts to change colors and it get dark earlier. I also love the cold. My favorite part about fall though is Halloween, and of course thanksgiving. Pumpkin patches and carving, corn mazes and lots of yummy food. I also love that it is the beginning of the holidays, where you get to spend time with your family making amazing memories. I have decked out my entire apartment in all types of Halloween and fall décor and will keep up the decorations, with slight changes, throughout the holidays. I blame this on my creative teacher side, always having to decorate for anything and everything

Reminders of my goals

While at work this Saturday I was reminded of why I want to be in this profession. I had a table sitting in my section (I'm a server) that was super sweet and kind. It started off by me walking up and saying hi to the father and his daughter. I immediately realized that the girl had cerebral palsy, so I struck up a conversation and started asking all of my normal questions. The girl smiled at me with the biggest sweetest smile and ordered the drink and appetizer she wanted. Her dad laughed and said whatever she wanted. I got their things to them and sat down with them to get their order. The dad started asking me questions about my major and what my plans were after I graduate college. I explained to him that after I graduate I want to go back and get my special education certification and teach younger students in an inclusion classroom. After this I sat and talked with them for basically the entire time they were there, except for when I left to handle my other tables. They told

Axe Throwing

Image
I held it in my hands, palms sweating and prepared to get hurt. I was so nervous. "Why would my brother make me do this?" I thought as I held the huge axe in my hands. Heavy and uncomfortable I steadied myself and got ready to try this. "1...2...3...GO!!" he yelled, and with all of my might I sent the axe soaring through the air. It twirled around and finally hit the board splitting it easily. "Man," I thought, "that was SO FUN!" I started immediately laughing as my family all cheered around me and holding out their hands for me to high five them. I realized that not only had I hit the board, but also made it inside the target circle. I cannot believe that my brother talked me into throwing and axe; but I am so glad that he did. That was the weirdest and most fun experience that I have ever had. I think that this game is crazy and I will probably never play it again; but you only live once right? my lesson that I learned from playing this "
